Blossom Ireland now offers an expanded, evidence-based skills programme – our Blossom Teen Development Programme. The Blossom Teen Development Programme is funded by Ability; Ability is co-financed by the Irish Government and the European Social Fund as part of the ESF Programme for Employability, Inclusion and Learning 2014-2020.
The Blossom Teen Development Programme teaches young people with intellectual disabilities to be as independent as possible in the community, socially, and in the workplace. There are three main components of the programme:
1. ‘Blossom Buddies’ for 14 to 16 year-olds, which is focused on social skills for life, community life skills and preparing for life after school;
2. ‘Blossom Gateway’ for 16 to 18 year olds, which builds on the ‘Blossom Buddies’ programme, with an increased focus on life after school; and
3. Our ‘Person Futures Planning’ service, which works directly with the young person and their families to provide support for 18 to 20 year-olds in helping them to transition to life after school. This service is currently in it’s first year of being piloted.
