Teenage Focus Group Members Wanted
We’re looking for teenagers to volunteer an hour of their time on Saturday 15th October, to help us develop our Blossom Buddies programme.
Blossom Ireland runs a specialist group at the weekend called Blossom Buddies for teenagers with an intellectual disability. The aim of Buddies is to give the teenagers a chance to get together in a relaxed and fun environment and learn important life skills.
Some teenagers with an intellectual disability find it difficult to communicate what exactly it is they would like to be doing and learning at Buddies. Sometimes the staff and parents have to try very hard to listen and understand different ways of communicating but sometimes we can still get it wrong.
That is why it would be really great to hear from a group of teenagers the same age about what it is you like to do in your spare time. Where you like to go, what are the things you think it is important you can do for yourself and what would you like to see yourself doing in the future. We understand every teenager is different and what one teenager likes another might not like at all. It is still very helpful to have this information when making decisions for the teenagers we work with who often cannot communicate as effectively as they need to. Often the teenagers we work with may not have had the opportunities you have had so just do not know about some things that teenagers do.
We would be really grateful if you could talk to us about these things and it could help to make a very positive difference to the lives of the teenagers we work with.
We will be running our teen focus group in our Raheny office on Saturday 15th October from 11.00am to 12.00pm. You will be making a big difference to our Blossom teens. If you or your child is interested, please contact us via email or phone.
