Blossom Ireland ( is an award winning organisation founded by 2 mothers passionate in the belief that their children with special needs deserve the same opportunities as all children. Blossom Ireland has been delivering therapy led camps and activities to children with intellectual disabilities since 2011. We are a dynamic and forward thinking organisation that prides itself on providing child-centred services for children and teenagers. We aim to nurture the younger children through our Discovery camps and equip the teenagers with independent living skills through our Blossom Buddies programme.

What we need We are recruiting a panel of Group Leaders and Support Assistants for our Discovery Camps running for 4 weeks in August, along with Blossom Buddies facilitators for our teenage service which runs every Saturday during term time.

Potential candidates should be available to work for our Discovery camp on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 8th, 10th, 12th, 15th, 17th, 19th, 22nd, 23rd and 24th August as well as any other future camps and/or also the Blossom Buddies service. This position would suit someone who can commit to working at holiday periods and weekends, or who is in a part-time position

The Position: Group Leader/Blossom Buddies facilitator

Responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and delivering a schedule of activities, including life skills workshops for teenagers
  • Tailoring activities to meet individual needs and targets.
  • Leading a camp group/afterschool activity
  • Behaviour management.
  • Delegating tasks to the group’s support assistants.
  • Managing relationships with parents of camp attendees with empathy and the utmost professionalism.
  • Participating and contributing to staff training and induction.

The Profile

The successful applicant will have:

  • An appropriate third level degree such as Primary or Montessori teaching, Educational Psychology or Occupational Therapy or other relevant qualification.
  • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in special needs education, particularly in a group setting
  • Excellent planning, organisational and problem solving abilities.
  • Strong communication skills and initiative
  • Having a background in music, art or drama is a distinct advantage
  • Experience of working with teenagers and in particular in the area of developing a life skills programme. Blossom Buddies Facilitators would be expected to have experience in the area of developing and delivering life skills programmes
  • Experience of the voluntary/community sector (in a professional or personal

capacity) an advantage.

The Package: €22 per hour

The Position: Support Assistants

Responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting the Group Leader in running the group or supporting a sessional tutor
  • Providing the right amount of assistance to enable the children to participate in activities to meet individual needs and targets.
  • Providing personal care to children.
  • Behaviour management.
  • Facilitating children to access activities in the community.
  • Managing relationships with parents of the children with empathy and the utmost professionalism.
  • Working well as part of a team, along with showing initiative.
  • Participating in staff training and induction.

The profile:

  • A third level qualification in childcare, Special Needs Assistant, Care Assistant, Montessori, nursing or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience of working with children in a special needs setting, particularly in a group setting.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Experience of providing personal care.
  • First Aid qualification an advantage.
  • Availability in the evenings, at weekends and during Easter and summer holidays

The package: €12 per hour
