Blossom in the Running for £40000 in funding

We are delighted to announce that we are in the running to receive up to £40000 from the Ulster Bank Skills and Opportunities Fund. But we need your help to win! All it takes is less than thirty seconds. Click on this link: http://skillsandopportunitiesfund.natwest.com/vote/vote-in-island-of-ireland.html and vote for Blossom Ireland.

If we are successful, we plan to use the funds to start our Blossom Buddies Gateway, for teens with intellectual disabilities aged 16 – 18. For the past year, we have been running a Blossom Buddies programme for teens aged 14+, empowering them to master life skills, gain independence and socialise and have fun with their peers. We view Blossom Buddies Gateway as the next step. The stage where they plan for the future, make decisions about what they want to do and have autonomy over the direction of their lives, rather than be sent to a centre just because there is a place is available for them. The programme would ensure that they cover areas such as self-travel, handling money, preparing a CV and work placements.  From our work with teenagers aged 14-16 years, it is clear that our older teens need support and practical experience for them to make a meaningful career choice as they enter adulthood. They often express how anxious and worried they are about leaving school and ‘what is next’.

Receiving this funding would allow 16 teens to complete the programme, and make a huge difference in their own and their families lives.
